Cookie policy

Last updated: 17 October 2026

This page explains what the 4D Ages website (4dages.com) keeps in your browser, why, and how you choose. It sits alongside our privacy policy. The 4D Ages phone app doesn't use cookies.

The short version

What we keep, and why

"Cookies" here means cookies and the other ways a website keeps things in your browser (local storage, the cache and a service worker). 4D Ages itself sets no cookies; it uses your browser's storage.

Needed to work (always on)

WhatWhyHow long
Your sign-in (local storage, set by our account service, Supabase)Keeps you signed in on this browserUntil you sign out
A copy of your books (local storage)So your books open quickly and work without a connectionUntil you sign out or clear the site's data
Your photos, videos and voice notes (the cache, with a service worker)So pictures show on the website and in books you make hereUntil you sign out or clear the site's data
The lock, if you turn it on (a key made by your device)Checks it's you before opening the websiteUntil you turn the lock off
Your cookie choices (local storage)So we don't ask again on every visitUntil you change them or clear the site's data

Without these the website can't work, so the law lets us use them without asking. They're never used to track you.

Preferences (optional)

WhatWhyHow long
The page you were on (local storage)So the website opens where you left offUntil you turn preferences off (then it's removed) or clear the site's data

Google services (optional)

Backing up your books to your own Google Drive uses Google's sign-in for websites (Google Identity Services). When you use it, Google's own code runs on the page and Google sets its own cookies, as described in Google's cookie policy. We only load it if you allow Google services, and only when you start a backup.

"Sign in with Google" is different: it takes you to Google's own website to sign in, then brings you back. That's Google's site and Google's cookies, so it isn't one of these choices.

Your choices

The first time you visit, we ask. "Accept all" and "Necessary only" are equally easy, and "Choose" lets you turn each group on or off. Nothing optional is used until you say yes. To change your mind, open Cookie settings at the bottom of any page, or in Settings. You can also clear all of the website's data in your browser's settings; you'll need to sign in again, and pictures not yet downloaded come back from your account.

Changes

If we ever add something new to these choices, we'll update this page and ask you again.
